### FAQ:

#### Is it free to attempt the questions at Singaporemathguru?

Yes! It is absolutely free to attempt any of the questions on our website. Our questions are modeled after examination questions of the top schools. Hence, it would make sense if a student creates an account with us and attempts these questions on our site. In addition to that, a student also gets the answers to the questions and will know whether or not he can do a question. As such, a student gets immediate feedback on his or her skills.

#### Are the solutions free of charge?

The answers are totally free on our website but the step by step video and worked solutions are chargeable. If a student attempts a question, the answer will be displayed for the student. We suppose an example to explain this scenario would make sense at this point. Suppose a student tries a question. The question is: "John has 45 marbles. If Mary has 45 more marbles than John, how many marbles has Mary?" A student keys in the answer as "80" and gets the answer wrong. At this moment, the answer given would be displayed as "90". Then, the student knows the answer but may not know how to do the steps and the workings to get the answer. That's where we come in. Our expert team of educators (qualified teachers) has already created a step by step video explanation of how to solve the question to clear any of the student's doubt. If the student has a paid account, the student can access these video solutions and static worked step by step solutions and gain the "know how" of how to solve a question. So in essence, the student only pays when he needs to know how to solve the question.

#### Why is SMG advantageous for my child?

Do we really have to repeat this?  ok! Well for one, it is actually free to try the questions on our site. Also, a student can try the questions and the answers will be made known to the student. But it's not the answers that really help a student. If that were the case, all students would be able to self study and get A stars on their own. No, that's not the point we are trying to make. We intend to provide step by step video solutions tied to each question so it is as if a tutor is personally helping your child. So even if you don't have a paid account, chances are that you would be able to use the site to help your child in his or her exam preparations.

#### Is the questions copyright free? Can I share the questions with my friend?

Yes absolutely! The questions are absolutely free and we encourage sharing in a non-commercial way to help others and let others know that we exist. Over time, when more members join us, you can expect the quality of the service to go up.

We feel that video is a great communication tool. It has all the elements necessary for a great lesson in the form of engaging the audio, video and visual senses of an individual. Also, these videos address questions because many a time, students who have read their textbooks may not be able to apply what they have learnt. Hence, video is a great way to teach a student how to apply what they have learnt to a particular question that is examinable. Another reason why our video solutions address questions is because it complements what is being taught in textbooks. But make no mistake! What is taught in textbooks and what is applied as knowledge in answering examination questions are often 2 different aspects that needs to be bridged.

#### Do all your questions have video solutions?

At the moment, not all our questions have video solutions as our team is not big enough to accommodate that outcome. But, be rest assured that we intend to create a video solution for each and every question. That being said though, not all questions need video solutions. More likely than not parents and students can figure the easy ones themselves (1 + 2 = 3… That's simple enough!) But each question will at the very least have a static worked solution.

#### Will you increase your databank of questions?

Yes, this whole project is a work in progress for us. We would like to continually increase the number of questions in our database. But at the same time, we are also constrained by reality as to create more questions means to have more teachers working for us and that means a cost burden to us as well. But you can expect us to increase our database of questions over time.

#### Will you upload more video solutions?

Yes, we intend to upload approximately 2 hours of video solutions each week per level . We are currently focusing on primary 4, 5 & 6 at the moment.

#### Do you upload video solutions weekly?

Yes, we intend to upload approximately 2 hours of new video solutions every week .

#### Do you upload video solutions daily?

We may not be able to upload video solutions daily because we are humans and need a rest too . But we intend to upload 2 hours of video solutions every week for the school year.

#### How many times can I attempt a question?

You can attempt a question as many times as you want whether you are a paying member or not.

#### How many times can I view a video solution?

If you are a paying member, you can view a video solution as many times as you want as long as it is within the restrictions of the package. That's a good thing because if you don't understand it, you can always replay it. It's like having a teacher explain it to you again. Sometimes, as students we need to be taught multiple times to understand something.

Singaporemathguru.com is a library that contains a database of Mathematics questions and its relevant video solutions to help a student ace his or her PSLE. Each question will have a video solution or a static solution to explain how a question is solved.

We offer the questions for free because we are a start up that believes in giving before receiving. We believe that we should have a value proposition for all students in Singapore regardless of whether a student is a paying member or not. But at the same time, we have a whole bunch of costs we have to contend with as a start up. Server costs, hiring costs, technology development costs etc and as such if you would like to know how a question is solved, you would have to be a paying member.

#### Will I get to know the answer?

Yes, the answer will be displayed after a student attempts a question.

#### Are my scores recorded?

If you have registered for a non-paying account, your scores will get recorded. That is why every student and parent should create a non-paying account first. If you are trying the questions without a non-paying account, your results will not get recorded. Hence, it is advantageous to create an account so that you understand the weak areas of your child. Consequentially, as you gain confidence with the system and think you need the explanatory video solutions, you can upgrade the account to a paid account.

#### What is the difference between step by step video solutions, worked solutions and the answers?

Worked solutions refer to step by step solutions that could be accessed as a video or a PDF document. The answers are just simply the answers. 1 + 1 = 2 . "2" is the answer. Students with paid accounts will get the "know-how" in the form of a video or document that details the step by step solutions.
